Journal Entry 2

Claim: parents that are trying to be their child’s friend as oppose of being a parent are supervising underage drinking in hope to control the behavior or outcome.

Data: According to the article, a teenager had a birthday party in her home last year as parents "supervised" their underage drinking. The parents, trying hard to be their teenage daughter's friend rather than her parents, allowed one 18 year old boy to slip away from the party with other intoxicated youth. Minutes later his life was slipped away and those that were in the car with him were seriously injured.

Warrant: Underage drinking is illegal. Parents should act in more of an authoritative manner with their children and teach them the outcomes and consequences of drinking outrageously.

Grounds: http: My data is correct. The article can be found on this link:::::::::>//0-find.galegroup.com.novacat.nova.edu/ovrc/retrieve.do?subjectParam=Locale%2528en%252C%252C%2529%253AFQE%253D%2528su%252CNone%252C19%2529%2522Juvenile%2Bdrinking%2522%2524&contentSet=GSRC&sort=Relevance&tabID=T010&sgCurrentPosition=0&subjectAction=DISPLAY_SUBJECTS&prodId=OVRC&searchId=R1&currentPosition=1&userGroupName=novaseu_main&resultListType=RESULT_LIST&sgHitCountType=None&qrySerId=Locale%28en%2C%2C%29%3AFQE%3D%28SU%2CNone%2C19%29%22Juvenile+drinking%22%24&inPS=true&searchType=BasicSearchForm&displaySubject=&docId=EJ3010217286&docType=GSRC

Backing: the legal drinking age in America is 21, therefore, the young man who was drinking was drinking illegally.

Qualifier: Parents should enforce illegality of drinking and address the consequences. They should discuss and tell their kids that there is other ways of having fun without drinking.

Conditions of Rebuttal: Teenagers are always going to engage and participate in activities that their parents will not condone. But, if the parent agrees to moderate drinking, than both parties will be satisfied.
